the Gransfors small forest axe

my god, what an axe! Having felled a 40 ft ash with a chainsaw I set about de-limbing with said axe. No problem at all up to 3" branches. Safe, controllable and very sharp, it seems to me that the small forest axe is so very capable that it might be called the medium sized tree axe, but that doesn't scan.

On a random note can some one please measure the eye of the head please?

I need a replacement handle for a new axe and thought about saving myself some time.

Sorry to go off topic.

just take the head with you into a farm machinery type shop. no matter what size you get you will need to shave it down to get a good fit. i find a wood rasp is by far the easiest way.

i think you may be able to buy replacements for GB? or you could have a crack at making your own;)

I was going to make my own like I usually do but the wood I had turned out to be full of knots which I hadn't noticed.

I was going for a handle about the SFA size and seeing as replacements are around a tenner I was thinking of just buying one.

Might just nip to the local scats and see what they have.

Cheers
