Sorry to hear it's not warm enough. Keep us posted.

I would certainly leave it laid out uncompressed in a warm room for a day or two to be quite sure it's completely dry and fully lofted. I'd agree it would be worth weighing it to check it is the right model.

Could be that the bag is fine and you are a cold sleeper. If so, the Nanok -10 could still be a good choice as you can put it inside the Nanok 0 for winter and use either one alone for the warmer months.

Where my bergan is
Thanks for the support and advice all! It's appreciated as no-one likes to buy something and find out it doesnt do what it says on the tin. Although it still might not be the case I am concerned to take it out into the hills. I slept in it last night again with the same result as before. But because it is designed for soldiers who can wear their webbing/chest rig/beltkit/assault vest while sleeping in it (and thats partly why that attracted me to it) it might be too large for me to heat it up. Could be the cause...

The bag was the weight I expected it to be. From experience Im not a particular cold sleeper. Tend to wear less than the others around me and demand fewer blankets.

Lining the bag is a option. I should have a fleece one somewhere which I will bring out and in future I can bring my Softie 3 along for it to become adequate for outdoor activities. However with the maggot weighing 2.3kg it's not something I had expected and look forward to do.

Tonight I will follow the help posted: good shake, continue leaving the bag open as it has done for the last two days and leave it in a warm area. Didnt get the chance today but tomorrow I will definitely put up the basha and test it outside: maybe even the chance for some photo's!!

Doc, Hobo, Joh and the rest will keep you updated! And thanks again all :)

Hi just to add to the previous advice the -10 has3 or 4 draw-cords , make sure you pull these in as when I camp in the lavvu I tend to fall asleep with the bag slightly open when the stoves roaring, but often wake up cold/cool at 4 in the morning when the fires gone out, I pull all the cords (especially round my head) and within 5 minutes I'm toasty warm, a serious amount of heat goes straight out of the bag when its open and as mentioned you lose lots of heat through your head. The baffles are there for a reason so make sure you use em ;) :D

I have both the nanok -10 and the 0 I have used these in the coldest conditions and been roasting, but I have also used them in warm conditions and been cold.

It took me a while to figure out what was wrong. You are already on the way to finding out yourself. The bags are made big to suit wearing clothes and this air space between you and the bag has to be either filled or trapped.

I have tried using the draw cords etc and having the hood up and both help and in the summer do the job fine but in cold conditions I wear a thick-ish top that fills the gap between me and the bag. With this in place I am roasting. you do not really need to add anything to your legs as the top traps the air in the bottom of the bag.

Try it out you will soon notice the difference.

Where my bergan is
Hello all,
Two nights ago I set off for a sleep in the local woods with the new maggot after leaving it unzipped and uncompressed on the couch during the previous days (much to my mother's disgust:p).

Armed with the advice of BCUK I got into the bag with vest, woolly jumper and combat 95 trousers on and a shirt wrapped around my feet. Determined to discover the bags' potential and prove myself wrong I pulled all four cords on torture tight, hood on, not wanting to get cold. I brought my fleece liner just in case. Which I found out was a good idea because initially I was warm from the and walk and sweet tea when I got in. But two hours later I woke up cold. Pulling the bag closer around me I tried to return to sleep, unsuccesfully :(.

In the end I had to get the fleece liner out. With that, the clothes and this time the cords on hangman tight (I did not want to wake up again!) I returned to sleep until nine in the morning. That night it had been one degrees Celcius.

I was dissapointed that I did have to resource the liner.
However, I managed to pursuade my brother to test it tonight and see whether Ive turned soft/into a cold sleeper or whether his Mammut bag, which is nearly half the weight of mine (without counting the fleece liner), is simply superior.

Leaving for the trip day after tomorrow.
There is a photo of my tryout in the woods but because of my parents dino PC I can't get the digi photo uploaded on the PC :( So thats something for the future!

Just a couple of pics from my recent trip to scotland. It was great but
very cold first thing in the morning when getting up!!

dry run in the local forrest testing and checking equipment. `

equipment for the trip.

Our en suite, bit small but it made sure that we didnt get cold even
though, come morning, our maggots were frozen to the canvas.

Dark pic of another night. During the day we hardly stopped. Thats when we got cold.
When walking I was only wearing a vest and coat, with hydration pack of
frozen drinking water in between to melt.

We had little daylight so walked right into the dark hours
when in the mist sets in which made for interesting navigation!!
Luckily The military spec compass I carried allowed for
night navigation to be made easy. All In all was great trip
and cant wait to go to the Ardennes in Feb.

The sleeping bag was great fine with the liner and wearing some clothes. On
the first night, underneath the "cosy" basha, I needed to have my head and
shoulders out.
I have also discovered that I simply am a very cold sleeper. When my brother
was testing the bag (naked) inside I was using a duvets, two blankets and
wearing a morning gown in a bed of the floor and still nippy!! He slept fine
though (the lucky *******!).
So if you are contemplating a bag which can go well below zero, is made by a
dedicated manufacturer true to the comfort rating but doesnt cost an arm (like
all others) and a leg dont look further than the nanok. Combined with the great
service of Outdoorcode you simply cant go wrong!

Looks like you had a good time.

But in the picture of your gear and supplies near the bottom please don’t tell me you brought two packets of shortbread to Scotland. ;)

Couple more pics:

Mug set of my traveling companion. His was superior to my BCB standard issue metal mug as it allowed to be hung from a stick aswell as being able to with pour it better and a perfect fitting lid.

bought the maps myself!! Having a senior moment so young... ow dear.

I went to South scotland. The Drop off point was a good hour drive
South from S Queensferry.
