The bushcrafter multi-tool

This will probably be unusual for alot of people but I carry a wood chisel with me into the bush. The reason for this is that:

1. It makes better square cuts in making traps
2. You can stiil use it for steel and flint striking
3. Remove it from the handle and have a storage space for tinder
4. Grind the edge for a small knife...
5. The point isn't where it will gouge you easily
6. Basically a wilderness multi-tool that will last a long time.

Drawbacks: The chisel can and will slice very well work methodically. can rust readily.

Carry with a knife preferrably but something i have done for a while and raised eyebrows. Hope this helps.

I carry my Victorinox Swisstool just about every where I ever go other than the shower, bed, and on aircraft. It has a small chisel as one of the blades, as well as a number of other really handy sharp bits. The chisel isn't ideal, the body being slightly wider than the cutting edge, so it's no good for deep chanelling, but for the majority of tasks I've put it to it's been incredibly useful.

I agree completely. There may be sexier multitools on the market, but few if any that equal the Swisstool on pure functionality. Mine, too, lives permanently on my belt and has done for the past seven or eight years. That little chisel is incredibly useful.

maybe I got a duff one. The chisel is useless as it's very blunt and needs a major regrind as it's ground at about 75degrees. Maybe I'll get a maker on BB to sort it out for me
