Slightly long story about British Gas but here goes...

I was living in the house that i now own but renting it then, it only had one gass appliance which was a warm air heater thing that I never used, the only time it had been used in the whole time I lived in the house was during the landlords gas safety checks.

British Gas had been round a few times and I duly got a bill for nowt (£0.0) and then a few times I read the meter and rung my measurements in and got other bills for nothing again... No problems, I didn't use gas and they didn't charge me for gas so I was happy.

Then came a time when I was working away during the week and I kept phoning my meter readings in when they put a card through my door, eventually though they wanted to view it themselves but that just wasn't possible as I was working away so I kept reading the meter and phoning the reading in.

They paid a locksmith to break into my home, read my meter only to find that I owed them a grand total of two pence (£0.02) from one of the times when the gas safety check had been done and used a tiny amount of gas.

I made damn sure that they had to ask lots of times and waste a fair bit of effort before they got their tuppence and even though I now have gas central heating they don't get a penny from me anymore, it goes to another company.

You could always try to get to a local meet if there is one close to you.
There is the midlands meet this w/end where you'd be more than welcome, if you can get there.

Thanks chaps. Yes a Darty meet-up would be great. Just need to take things easy for a couple of months and I'll be back on track. maybe in the Autumn if folks are free. I'm dissapointed I'm having putting off my year out trip too, but it's only temporary....................... Strewth everything revolves around flippin money dosn't it? Whether you want it too or not. It's the the world we live in and laws and rules that make it that way.

Just worked out how to use the multi-quote feature after all this time...........very chuffed.

There's a lot of people worse of than me. I've just been listening to Radio 5 live and they've been discussing the (Forecast) that gas may go up by as much as 60% (been all over the news today). There's a lot of upset people phoning in to the show with a lot of problems. ................Me not going to the moot is very, very small fry compared with those poor folks. I feel for them.
Council tax, fuel prices, gas, electric, food, childcare fees etc, etc. Some are genuinely very badly off and struggling. I didn't however feel sorry for the lassy who called in and was 'struggling' on 30K a year apparently Try taking a few less holidays and tone your life down a bit maybe?...........wish I was on 30K
Meanwhile.......... the managing director of Centrica (who own British gas) advises us to wear 2 jumpers instead of 1 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7512971.stm easy for him to say on his £500:000 bonus or whatever he got last year for his £1.9 billion profit that Centrica made last year. Love to take that twit to the Arctic in a -30c blizzard and when he starts moaning tell to 'just stick on another jumper mate..........you'll be fine............Twit!!

Another elderly lady summed it up well for me..........she said "We've been there before and got through it, and we'll get through it again".....well said that lady.
I suppose we've had it good for so long now since the last proper recession in the early 1990's that some people havn't barely known anything other than 'good times'.
