First post, just joined. My name is Eric, and my wife, son, and I are driving around the world full-time.

We've been on the road for 12 consecutive years, we're originally from the USA and I'm writing this post from South Africa, just outside of the Cederberg (a famous area for exploring and hiking). We currently live in a Jeep Gladiator and have just finished overlanding for 4 years throughout all of Latin America before shipping our Jeep to Africa.

Because we live outdoors, I've always had a passion for learning bushcraft. (I'm no expert by any means, just an enthusiast).

I ran across Bushcraft UK when doing a search for how to bushcraft a backscratcher (don't judge me). Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference.

I remembered back in 2020 when I first got into bushcraft as a hobby, that it was a UK bushcraft YouTuber whose videos I was watching that influenced some of the decisions I made for my family's journey around the world. So when I saw this forum was UK based, I thought it appropriate to join. Hope you don't mind an American in the mix.

Anyhow, I love forum communities, and have made many friends on others that I'm a part of. Can't believe I hadn't connected with a bushcraft one yet. So here I am and hope to get to know some of y'all, and to learn from you as well.

Any questions let me know.

Eric

Hello and welcome!
If you are in the Cederberg try the hot chocolate in the cafe in Clanwilliam - it is great!
A trip up to the natural rock arch is a must too :)

Hello and welcome to the forum Eric. :)

Sounds like you and your family are on a real trip of a life time, please make sure you share pictures of your adventures with us as I'm sure a lot of folks here, including myself, would enjoy seeing them.

Thanks all for the welcome. I tried to post some photos for those that asked, but they need to be linked? Not sure what that is all about, as I've never needed to do that on any forums. Normally I can just drag and drop. But for those interested in the journey, we do have a YouTube channel and you can get a feel there for what we do. This is us...

Hello and welcome!

Regarding photos, you can use Tapatalk from a mobile to paste, in which case the photos are hosted by Tapatalk, or you can use https://imgbb.com/, or you can take out the paid Full membership and attach direct.

Just don’t use Imgur because they block UK access and the photos don’t show.

I know BushcraftUSA allows non-paying members to attach photos direct, but they have advertising on the forum, whereas this forum does not have advertising. Blade Forums has both advertising and requires paid membership to direct attach photos and use direct message, and there are limits, so the rules vary even within similar US based forums.

Best regards!

Chris

You had me at hot chocolate. We're actually in Clanwilliam right now. Which cafe are you referring to? Link?
It is a long time since I was there ... half way down the main street, stone building, I think it is pretty much opposite the NED bank.
If you get to Wuppertal (sp?) it was a couple of the World Challenge expeditions that I led that helped sort out the campsite and "guest house" as our community projects, after we had canoed on the Orange river for the first part of the trip. Sorry no links... I am not hot on that kind of thing
