hi
i have a preference for "flashy spark" like the bens backwood fire flash and light my fire the rat is good to ! and the fire steel from dealextrem are the best compromise (they have two models one with red handle and one with black handle. this with the black handle go very well )
this is MY prefence other people prefere they others

Excellent videos, thanks for posting them. There does seem to be quite a bit of snobbery surrounding the LMFs against the DealExtremes. Being cheap I've gone for loads of the DX ones, I think they're great for the price! I'm fond of the misch firesteels from GoingGear and Firesteel.com, they throw out lovely big gobs of sparks.

I was out in the woods the other day, playing with my toys. I tried lighting some wet stuff (unsuccessfully) and had to resort to cotton wool. My LMF Army sent out loads of sparks but didn't catch. I tried a GoingGear big misch 'steel and the sparks weren't as "sparky" but bigger and soon caught fire. I do sometimes have problems getting sparks from them, just like Jean Baptiste in the vids.
