Tatonka Lastenkraxe - Does anyone know anything about this system ?

I was looking through a German gun catalogue today and they had a section with camping equipment that showed this system.
It's an external framed rucksack that can be separated to leave just a frame for carrying whatever you choose to attach to it.
The catalogue showed it stacked with fire wood but you could attach a water carrier ,fuel container ,pelican case ,game etc. etc.
I am just wondering if anyone has experience of Tatonka's products ,quality etc.

Tatonka Lastenkraxe
The packhorse of the carrier systems. This Lastenkraxe is the most original and the hardest working form of all back-carrying systems. The welded external aluminium frame with four diagonal struts can carry up to 50 kg. The extensively constructed, padded V2 carrier system has been chosen for its load transferring abilities.

Tatonka Packsack Lastenkraxe
Turn the Lastenkraxe into a complete rucksack system with the optional packsack. The corpus is securely attached to the aluminium frame with Velcro straps, and can easily be removed whenever required.

I have a 0.9 litre Tatonka Titanium cooking pot and lid set which is very good quality and cost half the amount of the equivalent MSR titanium pan set.
The British distributor for Tatonka kindly imported it for my order as it was not usually stocked in the UK. I throughly recommend Tatonka titanium pans , I would hope this pack is of similar quality and value for money.

I had a look at one of these in a shop here in Germany not too long back. As I recall, the back length can also be adjusted, and I did like the idea of being able to ditch the main pack and use the frame for carting fire wood. I thought the pack was quite heavy though, but I suppose that is the nature of external tubular frames. I don't like the two to one compartment divider thing on a bergen, that's just my own personal preference. It looked pretty hard wearing, but as I own two new PLCE bergens, and I get one issued aswell, I don't think the missus would be too happy if I turned up with another bergen!!

Tatonka has been in business about 10 years. There is a distributor in Canada, but they aren't well known here in the US. Well, except me . The design isn't new at all. Folding units like this have been appearing on the military surplus markets for a few years and a few other comercial units for packing game/ firewood as stated. Most are miserable affairs in term of fit and comfort, and thats before humping a filled 5 gallon jerrycan, motor shells or field radios on one ! The Tatonka unit I examined was real nice and well made. It is heavy, but if your loading firewood or the above jerrycan this translates into a secure platform. If your loading for a lorie, you don't use a Morris Minor frame. My objection is the use of velcro to secure the pack. Velcro is good stuff, but I've become disenchanted with it in the field. A little snow powder or fine dust and it's useless until cleaned.

I just learned about them a couple of months ago from a friend in Germany. There gear looks well made. I find it interesting that the companies name is the Lakota word for the male Buffalo.

There are some swedish army frame packs that are sold by surplus shops they are a lot cheaper and they will last a lifetime or two.

Archer, Germany has a long fascination with american indians and western americana in general. I believe the university at Hiedelberg still offers a few indian languages in their curriculum!

Thanks for the feedback guy's.
I dont like the idea of velcro to hold the pack in place but i really like the idea of having a frame for transporting other items.
