Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in event of success.

Errrrrm, not quite! And ladies welcome!

New thread started as the previous originator, Ricardo, can't make the course now.

The opportunity is up to 3 places on a week long winter bushcraft course in Sweden next February (6th-13th for planning purposes) , in the wilderness areas near Sundsvall and run as a mixture of permanent camp and travel where days 4,5 & 6 will be a journey on snowshoes made from natural resources. It will not be a course for novices, some experience of living outdoors in serious winter conditions will be needed and participants will need to contribute to group tasks such as collecting firewood, cooking etc. It should be a great experience for the right people. The main details you need to know:

The instructor

Matt has just left the RAF after 16 Years as a Physical Education Officer and Adventurous Training Officer who has led 8 Nordic ski touring expeditions to Sweden, delivered Ski Touring Instruction to the army, navy and RAF in Sweden, Norway and Bavaria, was a specialist Survival Rescue Officer and is also a NCFE Level 4 Bushcraft Instructor, Swedish mountain leader and holds many UK high level outdoor coaching qualifications and experience.

Outline Programme

DAY 1
Am—Introductory and revision activities including knife/saw/axe safety and usage etc.
Winter Hazards discussion and equipment brief.
Pm—Ice safety and ice breaking drills/Expedition packing and preparation.
DAY 2
Am Transport to start of expedition. Winter camp construction.
Pm—Fire lighting session and water collection.
DAY 3
Am—Snow shoe construction. Tracking and resource foraging session.
Pm—Natural shelter construction.
DAY 4
Am - Relocation Exercise using variety of Navigation techniques from GPS through to compass and map.
Pm—Avalanche awareness session. Snow shelter #1 construction
DAY 5
Am—Camp relocation using Natural Navigation techniques.
Pm—Ice fishing. Snow shelter #2 construction.
DAY 6
Am—Extraction phase.
Pm—Knife sharpening and knife law (UK Law). Clean up of kit.
NB All planned activities will be weather dependent and may change based upon the forecast.

Because it will be a small group, the course dates and programme can be changed (a bit) to accommodate individual requirements, within reason!

Cost

£600 for 4, £700 for 3 or less. Minimum numbers 2, so just 1 more needed for this to run. This will cover all costs other than the your flights and transport to Sundsvall. All other transport will be included. Food, fuel, and all accommodation will also be included.

Medical/insurance

Medical cover and evacuation will be via local sources (the European EHIC/E111 will work in Sweden as well). Insurance for activities is provided; you can of course choose to take out insurance for personal possessions etc.

Kit

Matt will provide all necessary group kit (tent, stove , cooking pots etc.) You will need your own personal kit and sleeping system suitable for winter/arctic conditions. A kit list will be provided in due course.

I hope some of you 'crafters will want to do this as much as I do. Any questions - post here or PM me.

Thanks,

TedW

Good luck with this..... Title got us interested......instructor and prices for an instructor were not familiar with has killed it.
Plus I've never seen a post from you before .
Seems very basic and nowt that couldn't have been covered in the UK , weather being joyous enough .
