What bothers me is that the UK is not up to it, we do not even have enough sailors to man the inadequate number of ships we have. We have invested in a nuclear deterrant that clearly does not deter anything. I am too old to fight but if I had to I would.

I had a look through the offerings. There is only one page of ideas in that first main book. The rest is background.

You might want this one too?

"Faktablad - Hemberedskap – Engelska"
=>
"Fact sheet - Home preparedness - English"

Here is a link:

It's a 2 page booklet with ideas for what you should keep at home. (food, radio, torches, something to cook with, blankets, batteries...)

It's very simple, very practical and it should apply nearly everywhere.

The only question I've got. If water isn't safe to drink. (In the UK the local radio can issue a "boil water advisory".)

What tool and what fuel will you use?
(Like maybe a Kelly Kettle.)

I liked some of the guys on Doomsday Preppers. Sensible stuff like 7 day packs in case of earthquake etc. But some were way OTT. And I'm not a fear porn guy, stopped following guys like Canadianprepper on YT when they kept pushing that stuff.
But seeing that pamphlet and the Nato announcements on the upcoming wargames has made me reevaluate some things and I'm going to become a little more prepared. Going to use the checklist this weekend and see what needs to be Improved on.

the one i liked the best was the urban forager who lived on the San andreas fault. he was prepping in case of a major earthquake and everything he had fitted in a small bag and everything else he needed fitted in his head. thus proving that knowledge weighs nothing. The survival experts who do the assessment were well impressed with him.
Its always a good idea to prep. I take note from nature; bees, ants, squirrels, jays and many more all prepare for a rainy day. The world is very uncertain and you never know whats around the corner. Incidentally that was what got me into bush craft in the first place.

Anyone see this yet. Interesting read. Looks like they’re taking current threats seriously.
I just read that and it does offer a few snippets of sound advice but I do think much of it may be fear mongering. After all why on earth would anyone want to invade Sweden? I also think it should have a link to our bush craft forum. :)

Incidentally the UK gov is creating a gov web page on prepping. It is geared primarily toward power outages and cyber attack. I will write to my MP and suggest they add a link to this amazing forum.:)

There are dedicated prepper forums. So maybe better

There are dedicated prepper forums. So maybe better linked to those.

This is not my thread. I just responded to it and my comments all mention bush craft. Bush craft is essentially a form of prepping and whilst I try to stay on topic on this forum I feel there is sometimes a cross over which merits discussion.

Granted, but a deluge of peppers and survivalists into the forum would probably change the demographic for the worse

Granted, there is a "bushcraft " element to some forms of prepping, especially the bug out scenario, but I wonder how many people will actualy be doing that. Not many I'll bet.
I do prep for the long term, but its mostly about being able to cope in my own home, with no gas electricity, and food and other shortages. To some extent, I do bring in bushcraft elements, such as wood prep and firelighting, foraging etc, and use them in my daily activities all the time.
For instance, yesterday, I sorted out my first aid kit, and needed to replace certain items, so down to the chemist I went, and on the way home collected a bundle of windblown twigs to take home and dry for kindling ,so that I have it in hand rather than having to go and collect it when needed, and maybe in a dangerous /wet situation.

Prepping is planning and forethought, rather than bushcraft per se though I agree there is a small overlap in some areas.

I've got nothing against preppers and self reliant driven individuals - in fact I probably fall into the second camp more than I like to admit.

BUT

This forum would not be a more positive place for lots of transient individuals blowing through from some badly misplaced links.

By all means if you can discuss or talk about how some common sense prevention by pro-active action here within the confines of the forum you'll probably find a group of people that can do it from the grounded and pragmatic perspective. I think there is just a concern ( which I share ) that a stampede of people thinking this is a prepping based forum ( it isn't ) will be a bad thing.. There is some overlap between interest groups , but its just that - unintentional overlap.

A bird sitting in a tree is not afraid that the branch may break because its confidence is not in the branch.but in its own wings.
Quite unrelated but my son and I were out in the forest last year and a large dead branch fell to the ground and as it landed a squirrel ran off of it. It had broken the branch and landed with it as it fell, then hit the ground at the same time and ran off as it did so.
I’m sure there is a prepping lesson in there is one looks hard enough.
Just remembered it then and wanted to keep the thread on topic… ;)

I wouldn't personally involve the govt. in anything to do with this site, next thing you know, it will be banned for promoting the use of "dangerous" weapons, blah, blah, blah. They will twist anything to sound like they're getting a 'handle on the problem"!:banghead:
