Me and a friend went for a hike i Sarek two weeks ago. Unfortunately, we did not see much of Sarek. Perhaps, I jinxed it?
We got up to STF Ritsem late tuesday night, in order to catch the first boat over Akkajaure. The store/reception wasn't open when we needed to set out, the following morning som we had to do a runner (emailed and asked for an invoice to be sent, though). I also made reservations at the restaurant at STF Saltoluokta 5 days later (this might have been the jinxing part)

Well back on dry land, we started outby following the Padjelanta trail for a few kilometers. Some mud and an exciting bridge but mostly easy walking

After a couple of hours, we got of the beaten path and got some lunch

One of you might recognize the freeze-dried (tasted excellent). The SVEA is a real work horse (got a brass addiction)
During lunch, my mate said that his knees was making their prescence known. After some 16 kms they had gotten real bad (our speed was down to 1 km/h at the end).

We pitched the tent and put off any decisions regarding the knees for tomorrow

(The valley Ruotesvagge in the background)
The next morning we exfiltrated our camp site and started a trial run for the knees. The first order of business was to wade. Not very deep (just above the knee) but it was rather long. 90 meters in, my toes went numb. But at that point I had a few meters to land.

The knees was in roughly the same shape as the afternoon before, so we had to change our plans. We now aimed for the Kisuris cabins and later the Akka cabins. Ah, well...No combat plan survives the sight of an enemy.
So we slowly made our way to Kisuris where we got a room. The walk to Akka was a bit faster, but not much, so the right decision had been made.
The sauna at Akka was the best I have had!!
On the boat over, I talked to a English woman who hade done Sarek solo. Good job, that. I have to admit a small amount of jealousy, at that point...
I will have to go next year, instead, as the moose hunting seasong kicks off on Monday.
