Nice pictures. Love that burl. You could make a big handle out of that. Maybe a nice wooden body for a chainsaw?:)

Looks like a great trip. love those trees.

That beetle is a click beetle, so called because when they are threatened they use a spring release mechanisim beneath their head that pings them into the air away from danger, making an audible click as it releases. If you pick them up and hold them by the body they will click repeatedly. It fascinates children.

That one looks like Ampedus sanguineus, but there are several similar species. Excellent picture.
