i have recently moved away from the military style boots to a pair of karrimoor orkney 4,s.
i have done over 50 miles in these boots and find them great and very comfortable, but on stoney ground i find the soles too flexible.
are there any insoles on the market that are stiffened enough to reduce this flex , have googled and not found anything

Hi
Most good hiking shops should sell inner soles; usually far better quality than those provided even in the high end boots. I got a pair in the Alps last year for about 35€ and they made a huge difference to the comfort of my boots. Not sure they'll stiffen as you wish, but they are thicker and cushion the foot far better.
cheers
Gareth

Hi,

I don't think there is any aftermarket product that will stiffen a boot. Generally Hiking / Mountain boots have a shank built in that provides a level of stiffness and torsional ridgidity. Insoles help to align the foot inside the boot and can help in reducing shock and fatigue / soreness. I've not seen any insoles that can improve the stiffness of a boot.

I have used Sorbothane insoles in the past and they were very good in conjunction with a pair of Older KSB's.

I use Superfeet insoles in some of my other boots and they have been very good also.

It may be a case of looking for some 'stiffer' boots..
