Spalted Spoon

Never had the pleasure of carving Magnolia. That spoon looks gorgeous!

It's always worth keeping an eye out for people's garden shrub prunings, you can get some interesting wood to try out.

Carves the same unless you have heavy spalting then you can get some tear out

I have a huge batch of spalted alder, some pink, bronze, golden, black/brown etc. I got it just in time, most is ok but some is crumbly and dusty like worm hole dust or a crunchie bar is, nigh on impossible to get a smooth burnish finoish
LOL I always think if birch is left on the ground for more than 12 minutes it will start to spalt
Laburnam smells nice too

Lovely spoon Mark.

My neighbour took out a small magnolia from their garden one weekend I'd gone away. I was gutted to have missed getting some of the wood :(
