Eating spoon in apple wood, faceted handle, gentle crank and a mix of sanded, scraped and off the knife finish, I resorted to a bit of sanding as there was a troublesome bit of grain that just wouldn't behave.

Oh, nice :)

Apple wood is lovely stuff.

The distaff on my oldest spinning wheel, dated accurately to the mid 1700's, is apple wood and it's beautiful.

That's a lovely little spoon! I do like working with apple :)

I do like a nice bit of fruit wood, hard to come by down here though, although i have a Greengage and a Pear that might come down next year, they have been warned - behave or else, in all seriousness, they are quite old and past their best, the Greengage is full of rot and the Pear i think has just come to it's natural end, time will tell though.

Yup, it does age well and takes on a beautiful patina, I know i have no Apple left, but i do have a nice length of Cherry outside, not sure how good it is though as it's been sat waiting for me for a couple of years now, the heartwood should still be good though - fingers crossed.

As always a lovely job.
I’m so glad that experts find “troublesome grain” too. :)

No experts round here, just a bloke that likes to whittle a bit, funny really when you see the 'Youtube' experts they never have manky materials, most of the time it's perfectly straight and knot free, if only the real world was like that, personally i like difficult grain, knots etc as it adds character, it's a pain to carve, but often the results are worth it.

Good looking. Really clean design.

I have a fondness for Apple, it was the first wood I spooned with, from a tree on my folks garden.
