Spalted Birch

[Kepis]

Spalted Birch spoon, wood was just about viable but did suffer from tear out in a couple of places, deliberately left on the chunky side because of the weak wood.

Quite pleased with this one as it's the first one I've axed out from a small log and then carved to completion in a good while.

I do like that web where the handle meets the bowl.
I tried to carve spalted birch and wrecked every piece that I had.
The wood must have been too far gone.

Your spoon: bigger, deeper, short handle would be a water scoop
so important in First Nations sweat lodge ceremonies.
