Snowy Gwent

[Harvestman]

Today being my only free day of the week, I decided to make the most of it.

After getting the car out of the fresh drifts of snow I went over to Magor marsh nature reserve, near the coast and away from most of the lying snow. The idea was mainly to sit in the bird hide and see what appeared, but I ended up walking right around the reserve.

I found the otter

Then I got the macro out and focused on the reeds

After showing the otter pictures to the resident site education officer (who has never seen the otter there) and winding her up a bit, I drove back to the snowier side of the county for a woodland walk.

It has been snowing for about the last 5 days

Again, I saw opportunities for some close-ups

No photoshopping on this one, just a lovely contrast of colours

Hello all - newbie down here in Momouth.............some great pics here; been magic all about the place these last few days - I've been otter-watching on the Wye today near Monmouth, ain't they just magic critters? I'm very happy to note that the population on the Wye is very healthy now and if you know the right spots they're reasonably easy to see........sometimes the access is tricky in this weather, especially with a spaniel that's siezed up with masses of ice balls frozen solid into her coat! Seems like we'll have flood waters again next week if the big thaw comes as predicted, eh? all the best, mac

Otters are lovely to see. the one today was only about 20-30' away from me, and heard my camera. It looked at me, raised itself in the water for a better peer, decided i was harmless, and carried on. Sadly those shots were not quite in focus.

You will have to join in on a meet near Pontypool or Chepstow later in the year.
