Smillies - have they gone on their xmas break

How do i make those damn elusive smillies return when im posting a reply, lately when i try to put one in at the end of my reply all i get is random letters.

Please someone help an old fool who once more has been defeated by this evil laptop of mine...

You need to click on the Go Advanced tab and then just click the one you want. Don't copy and paste the code.

didnt work but when i clicked on the blue box with the small A AND THE BIG A, this happened......
