I have a MaxP Vulture and a Gransfors Small Forest Axe. There isn't a way that the axe will fit comfortably in the bag, so I'd like to attach it to the molles on the side. Here's a link to a pic as I can't get Photobucket working properly today.

Before I cut the stitching between the webbing to slot the handle through, does anyone have any attachment suggestions/advice?

What about putting a paracord lanyard on it and then attaching it using a key-ring style carabiner clip thingy doo-dah?
Whatever you do, DO NOT start cutting the stitching - you'll regret it at some point. Just think your way around the problem.

One of those mag light belt loop carrying things clipped on,

or a belt attatcment thingy for your hammer? Two possibilities to get you thinking!

what about thick shoelace? could then sort of tie it to the molle?

I have to say that prior to posting, this sort of arrangement had been considered!! I would have used paracord and not 'sort of tied' it to the molle. String is a wonderful invention and I know some good knots.

Possibly the spammiest, trolling post I've ever seen.

Thanks to the rest of you fellas, but I think I've got it sussed. I hope the Mods and Admin don't object to cross-forum posting but I'm having trouble with Photobucket at the moment so I can't do the pic of this ABSOLUTE GENIUS IDEA.

EDIT: Apologies for the 'heat of the moment' expletive (now deleted by mods), but I can't believe the basic lack of thought and stupidity of the members' post.

That's a bit harsh! Perhaps you should take a look at some of my posts there's, no way that is worse than some of my efforts!

i was only suggesting what you might of had to hand. if you didnt like my suggestion then id appreciate constructive responses. no need to be an **** was there

No, there wasn't. But as you're chucking it back...and posting about it on BB, I suggest you 'keep it to yourself' up unless you wish to impart someting useful to a forum rather than spamming.

Shoelaces for chrissakes! 'Sort of tied to'....! This is a bushcraft forum, we know what string is.

appologies for my daft idea, appart from pictures i have no idea what a molle configuration is like, so me saying what i did may have been daft.

Glad there was a more beneficial idea on another forum, and at least that answer was a little more researched.

No hard feelings eh?

PhilL you're not helping. I have already been forced to issue a warning, if this continues I will end this !!

Do not push me on this people I am becoming a bit vexed !!

You can buy lengths of velcro which I'm sure you could make into some decent straps with cinch buckles on. I reckon if you get the velcro wide enough it should easy hold the weight of the SFA.

I've got some bits I might be able to dig out but I think they might be too narrow, I'll have a butchers though.

right, fully understanding what you mean now, iv noticed my bag has an axe strap on the back. it looks like a webbing strap sewn on,25mm wide with a buckle for adjustment and security. could you not sew some webbing on? around 8 inch straps, top, middle and bottom? that way you can strap a large or small axe/staff/walking pole on?

Shewie, thanks for making sense, and for the offer but I think I'm sorted. Looked at some pics of mods(not the ones here telling me off!) earlier, and cutting the stitching between the Molle webbing seems to be a good way to carry the axe. It's simple and allows the webbing to do what it's supposed to do, which is 'attach stuff'. Other than that I'll get a Maxpedition Universal Torch sheath (for megabucks!) and use that as per the link above.

Nice, easy post, ta. For some reason I don't get access to smilies on BCUK, so please accept a Grinning smilie.

grantdan, also thanks for the advice, if you have a look at the pics of this bag (link in my original post), you'll see the 1" webbing straps down the side. Each is about 6" long and sewn twice widthways to form 2" slots, not quite wide enough for an axe handle. So, do I snip the stitching down through all the rows on one side to give me a 4" gap for my axe handle but still retaining the ability of the Molle to attach pouches if need be, or use a shoelace? Please also accept a Grinning smilie.

As far as I'm concerned THREAD CLOSED. (Another Grinning smilie)

Another option could be to make a 4" webbing strap which folds in half and then fastens with press studs. Sew a loop in one end with a metal loop big enough for the handle. You could slide it behind the webbing and fasten it closed.

I was only joking, of course! If anybody wanted a fight, they could just nip to their local town at about 2 in the morning and hang around the night clubs hurling abuse at big angry looking fellows. The riot would soon start. Driving all the way to a remote service station for a fight would be the actions of a mad man, think of your carbon footprint!
