hi everyone,

im thinking of getting a new down sleeping bag. im wanting to spend around £200 and and stuck between these two as they are both a similar price.

https://www.alpkit.com/products/pipedream-600-2016

https://www.alpkit.com/products/skyehigh-900

ones a big heavier, the others a bit smaller, i think warmth is what im most interested in. i live in Scandinavia and enjoy winter camping.

basically im not sure what is warmer, 900g of 650 fill power, or 600g of 750 fill power. ive compared that temp ratings but am still unsure.

thanks

The pipe dream is rated warmer using the standardised EN test. It also weights 50% less. No contest....unless your size comes into it.
I looked at the pipe dream recently and the reviews and dimensions led me to conclude that it would be tight for me - 180cm and 95kg. The sky highs are deliberately roomy I understand. If the bag is excessively tight it will compress the down so you will lose the advantage of the fill power and you will end up colder anyway. Of course if you are 70kg all of this is irrelevant!

If your after a winter bag for Sweden, then I'd ask locally, but both are winter bags (from a reliable and well reviewed brand) and as The Nugget points out, the difference is better fill, hence lighter and more expensive. Always get the best you can, and it might be worth looking at the AlpineDream 800 - that extra £95 does give you extra warmth and a lighter weight/small pack size at the Skyehigh
