This company will dry clean Pattern 58 feather bags, military bags and other feather bags. They will do synthetics as well. They do have a specialist duevt/bag service so if it cant be done they will tell you.

Do remember to shake out and scrape off mud, slugs and dead badgers before you send your bag.

Basic cost is £20 plus postage. They are an eco-cleaner so do not use the more harmful solvents used by the normal high street cleaners. Turn around is usually about 4 days to clean and then up to the postie.

I can`t imagine a 58 pat bag without that homely odour, what a bizarre concept.

Thanks for the heads up, how much did the postage cost you with the 58 cause they ain`t lightweight, do you have to pay it both ways aswell ?

Yep you have to pay for delivery and return!

Cant give you an exact price as I actually took my one in person. But look out Parcel Force. Best thing is to contact the guy first. The bag comes back bigger and its a hell of a fight to get it back in the hood.

Do you know if Byrons are doing anything "special" that other dry cleaners aren't (apart from accepting the bag in the first place)?

I probably won't get my Alpkit bag until May so will need to use my Patt.58 for a while yet. If I can sign a waiver at my local dry cleaners for their duvet service, it would be a lot cheaper.

i used to get my 58 long washed at the laundrette where you handed it in and they washed it in the bigger machines out back and dryed it to no dry cleaning etc normal soap and water they even did it with TX10 i supplied (back when it first came out thuogh i never tryed it to see if i could float on a lake too  liek the advert

Come to think of it that was 92 dont think its been washed since   :lmao:

Problem is the bag does not have a dry cleaning or any cleaning instructions included. They are worried that the base will melt into the solvents etc.

The two other cleaners I took ex-issue bags to were reluctant to clean or even touch them. most cleaners opperate by the company manual and if it falls outside of the manual its a no! This guy is an indipendant so uses his mind (a very rare commodity). So if your cleaner knows it can be done, give it a try or go the techwash route and use a larger tumble dryer as suggested.

As I said just happy with the service and having a clean smelling , warm as toast bag.

You're better of not dry cleaning anyway, since it will wash all the oils out and shorten the life of your bag.

Get some down soap and wash your bag carefully in the bath. Clean like treading grapes and tread all the water out of it and leave it to drain for while when its been rinsed, otherwise the waterlogged down could tear all the baffles out. Let it dry flat on a towel and only when half dry hang it out. Shake it out a bit every now and a gain to stop clumping.

If you can tumble dry it on a cold cycle (nylon will melt otherwise) so much the better. Even betterer (!) add a clean old plimsoll to break up clumping.

Nickwax and Grangers both do down soaps.

Eastwards!
I've just had my sons 58 pattern bag cleaned by these folks. Their comment was; 'did it walk in here by itself!'
Now it is clean I can understand the comment. They have done a fantastic job! Thanks guys.

No faults with any part of the bag from this process, in fact the loft feels better. Plus it now smells pleasant!

It will be for sale soon when I can get my act together.

Swyn.
