Sit spot

Hey all. I wasn't sure where to post this, so here 'll do!
I was just wondering if anyone has a favourite 'sit spot', where you go to tune in with your surroundings and get to intimately know that particular area?
I've been talking with a chap that highly reccomends it.
I am currently using this technique whilst trying to learn tracking skills, so any help or input in this area would be greatly appreciated.

I like to find anywhere quiet, and out of the way to sit, think, tune-in, and maybe whittle some wood. Secluded is important, it's no good if people keep walking past. Even quite busy places, like my local woods (at work) which are much frequented by dog walkers, there are places that you can get off the main paths and find some tranquility.

It's nice to observe the way things change over time from the same place -- how different the woods look at different times of year, what's growing nearby, and little things that you'd only notice if you keep coming back to one tiny area time and time again.

Good luck with the tracking skills, I normally have a dog with me, but am still amazed at the amount of wildlife that seems oblivious to my (and her) presence.

I like to find a big old tree and sit against it, preferably with a patch of nice soft moss to sit on! I usually choose a spot on a well worn trail where I am more likely to see wildlife going about their daily business. It helps to get some information on the area - where is the badger sett/fox earth etc if you want to see larger mammals, but I tend to find that I get totally absorbed in my immediate surroundings and insects are fascinating to watch. I tune into all the smells, sights and sounds around me and try to become part of the environment. Try to still your mind as well, let thoughts flow through your mind but don't get too involved with planning your dinner for example!!
Good luck with the tracking and enjoy tuning in, you will find it very rewarding!
