Got my mits on my new shing blade on monday (What a bute!), and could not wait to get going with it!

I used boxwood scales (The wood was from a churchyard and is well over 100years old) with leather spacers (As a bit of an experiment) and it came out a treat!!

I have large hands and needed a chunky handle, So that is what I made!!!

Anyway pics for you to enjoy (As always comments please they are my best teacher!)

I stuck the leather (Rough side) to the scales and rubbed epoxy into it at the same time, this in effect soaked it, I then placed cling film between the two halves and clamped them togeter, after drying I seperated the two halves (Hence the cling) and sanded to get rid of any stuck cling.

Clear as mud!

Nicely done Pignut - looks like a top tool. The Boxwood looks a good choice.

Have a similar blade on order myself - really looking forward to getting to grips with it. :D

LOL!!!!

The box is bloomin hard! I suspect it will be very tough in use!

Now thats nice

I've been working on one with leather spacers since last year. It is my first attempt at a full tang and only my fourth knife. I decided to try and do it all by hand (no power tools). I'm finding hard going I cant seem to get a nice symetrical balance. I had to drill out the rivets because I forgot to glue them in and I could'nt get them to sit there without moving. I either cut the leather to short at one point or I've had a bit of shrinkage. Theres still a bit to do as you can see but I will get there. Then I will sell it and get some more kit. the wood by the way is pear donated to me by bardster :You_Rock_ . I also need to file the tang down a bit as I have over sanded the wood. :( . I swear this knife is my nemesis

I was looking at them recently on Mr Shing's site, looked like a good deal, but, hadn't heard any reviews.
How thick is the spine?

4mm!

They are a fairly heavy weight blade! but the quality and finnish is fantastic!

I have used several (hundred) different knives including a W/S woody I would say the shing is far better than most

This knife is going to be a user and I can honestly say I would trust it beyond most

Hiya mate. A while ago i has Shing make me one of his woodys, but with a much larger handle than normal (i have big hands too :) )
Ive been using it for a while now, and my confidence in it is such that ive put it through things i would consider as abuse for most well-made knives. It really is a brute, and has held up brilliantly. Its still my main user, and i cant see that changing anytime soon.

Is yours 4mm?

I have not had a chance to test as you can apreciate but the feel of the thing instils confidence in itself
