This is my first sheath. In spite of my other interests, I have never produced any moulded leather work before.

The sheath on a Churi (Khurkrihouse.com) is made in a similar way to the traditional khurkri having wooden scales a metal tip and then a funny belt loop. I have striped the old sheath and reused the scales.

The leather is two layers of Connoly Bros. upholstery leather which is softer than hide. The leather has been put together with grab adhesive (B&Q No Nails). So the sheath has no knap side showing both inside and out. The grab adhesive gives some rigidity to the soft hide. using this method you can literally use the leather from an old chair or sofa and get good results.

The side of the sheath has had the edge laced with a thong made from an old bike jacket.

The entire thing was held in place using bulldog clips, left to dry and then sewn, total time about three hours to do.

So the sheath has no knap side showing both inside and out. The grab adhesive gives some rigidity to the soft hide. Using this method you can literally use the leather from an old chair or sofa and get good results. The belt loop is part of the sheath and folds over and is linked into the back of the sheath. (cant reduce the pixel size enough to up load picture of it)

The side of the sheath has had the edge laced with a thong made from an old bike jacket. The fluffy edge of the leather was consolidated by using dilute PVA and by gently hammering the thong I have closed and compressed the holes. The holes were made with a cheap leather punch and the thong was threaded by using a bent paper clip as needle. No special leather tools used. The punch and rivets came from a cheap kit in a pound shop.

The entire thing was held in place using bulldog clips, left to dry and then sewn, total time about three hours to do. total cost about £4.50

:) Done it!

Rear view of Churi sheath. I might add I was to lazy to read the tutorial so I made it all up as I went along. Oh, yes blade looks odd because its greased with a beeswax and lanolin solution for storage.
