sharpening stones quick question

I've an aluminium oxide damp stone, a razor stone and I think a water stone that is very very vicious and you wouldnt want to grind a sharp edge on it.ssoaked the waker stone as its like a sponge, the aluminium stone doesn't absorb alot, and the razor does not absorb at all. All develop a slurry on.

First of all as the slurry/stone dries up the sharpening slows down.

Second, as the slurry mounts up the uniformity of the grind surface has big gouges in it and threatens the edge, due to larger pieces of grit becoming dislodged.

No problem with the razor stone. I have used these before, the aluminium type, under a running hose, usually for chisels. Whats the answer, new stone, or more rinsing ?

Thanks pete

edit.

Also as the stones exept the razor stone become wet they become soft crumble, and are far less abrasive, the waterstone almost immediately, the aluminium after about 12 hours of dampness and needs to be dried, use it without water/lubricant, and it also crumbles fairly quickly.

any advive or insight on this.
