Sharpening silver

O.k folks this is a tricky one so please think carefuylly before replying!

My best friend bought me this rather beautiful 1920's solid silver letter opener. I love it and would like to use it but the edge is just a little dull, so it's not actually that good for its primary function!

Is there anyway I can sharpen the edge, just a tadge! To make it a little more useful!

Silver is metal so there's no reason why you can't sharpen it the same way as your knives.

Just go a lot more gently as it's going to be a lot softer than you're hardened O1 knife

I'd recomend very fine fine emery so as not to take to much material in one swipe,and go slowly. alomost polish an edge if you get my meaning.

Silver work hardens so you could sharpen it in the same way as a bronze sword.

This involves beating the edge with a convex hammer on a convex anvil which both thins and hardens the edge at the same time.

Probably completely impractical but that's how it was done 4000 years ago.
