Scarlet Elf Cup and also an ID query

Thought this was a pretty wee thing



also can anyone give me some ideas as to what this is?
had it suggested that its either Crystal Brain or White Brain

Is the elf cup growing on an old bit of yew? I usually find it on dead or wrotting coniferous wood.
The other looks like that strange ectoplasm stuff or a slime mold.

There are a few things that white stuff could be. Not any easy group.

The elf cups are always nice, and are abundant at this time of year.

First time I've come across the elf cup.
I admit that fungi arent something I've laid a lot of attention to until now.

Wasnt any yew in the area as I recall.
it was on winter challenge so I was otherwise occupied to look around too much

Elf cup grows on what is called brash - twigs and branches that have fallen to the ground, and started to decay. It can handle pretty wet conditions. It seems to be at peak abundance about now, and will be gone by summer.
