There's a fair bit of discussion on here already, personally I'm very impressed with mine. As waterborne viruses aren't an issue in the UK I've not worried about it.

If I'm wrong please correct me, but I heard that you should leave your filtered water in a CLEAR bottle out in sunlight for a few hours as the UV kills the bacteria and viruses

The Sawyer filter removes bacteria. It does not remove viruses. Leaving for a short period in sunlight will not provide enough UV to destroy the viruses.

Sawyer also produce a filter named "zero point zero two" (0.02),which does filter out viruses. I don;t believe it is available in the "mini" size.
