Salmon Ladder

I came across this Salmon Ladder whilst out on a bimble on the River Yarty - Just thought I would share it.

The one thing I'm not too sure of its inclusion is in the 1st photo on the far left hand side is a narrow chute of castellation's -Its clearly a more modern addition to the ladder and I'm thinking it maybe an updated modification for Eels? If anyone ( suitably qualified through knowledge or experience ) can confirm, please feel free.

I'm pretty sure you're right and that's an eel ladder They need something to work with against the current, so bristles or pegs....and your photo looks like pegs. They just wriggle their way around and upwards
