This is my first SAK redressing I won it from Chibbi on BB its not in the best nick as teh corkscrew was braken (I had to grind it down) and the blades were scratched so I thought I had nothing to lose and I learned a lot from it.

Red deer antler scales and yes they are a bit green:huh:

Great improvement on the red plastic. The green is probably algae and will wash off in time.
I lightly rub the edges off antler with fine wire wool. It gives a great polish and a bit of 'pocket worn' effect.

Pete,

If its a SAK you want to get the handles off it couldn't be easier.

Put boiling water from the kettle in a mug, drop the knife in for a few minutes.
Carfully retrieve the knife, it WILL be hot.
Slip a blade or other thin oblect between the red scales and the aluminim bolsters, slide towards the end and gently twist, the scale should pop off. Repeat for the other end then side.

hope this helps.

Dave

PS - Nice job there Alf

Out of curiosity, how does one afix new scales to a SAK? Epoxy?
If you buy new scales like the deluxe models they snap into place
If you make your own from wood horn plastc etc etc you will be glueing them and usually with epoxy

You will find a good tutorial HERE
