interesting note from 2 ex RM managers......

DO NOT send anything First class from early December as Royal Mail service standards for 1st & 2nd class are all suspended from 2 December over xmas so all mail is treated the same. My second class items are getting there next day because of this

it happens every year at xmas time the 2 December date may move by a day or so but if you work on 2 Dec you will be ok.
RM at this time of the year get managers and staff from the back offices to man the sorting machines rather than employ extra casuals and their aim is just to get the mail moved, forget segregation of 1st and 2nd class.

After 37 years in RM been there seen it done it and worn out the T shirt
