I had a bit of an accident with my old touchscreen phone. Needlss to this has resulted in a cracked screen and the corner now has an interesting star distortion to the screen display. I can still use but want fixed. Where would be best to go to? The phone company (O2) or the local asian guy with a phone shop? How would you back-up everything so it isn't lost? I don't really trust going to anyone for this so would like to back-up then wipe the phone and once fixed put everything back.

Any suggestions or recommendations? Have you had a touchscreen fixed? Does it work ok and is it expensive? An old Viewty from LG BTW.

Would I be better off getting a new phone? With a new contract? Currently I'm on a pay as you go putting in £15 which gives me free texts and calls to other O2 users (most of my friends and family actually so pretty good). This lasts a month then I take 2 weeks to spend the remaining balance (usually its about £12-14 as I do make some calls and texts to non-O2 users and some MMS which are not free).

Any ideas about good deals or places to fix my old phone? Would there be a cost effective contrac deal that gives a half decent phone? Would contracts be any good for my limited use? Questions quesstions questions... I have many.:D

If anyone knows a good deal for a phone that could take those mapping stuff with a gPS I'd be interested. WOuld have to be a cheap deal as I really don't want to spend that much monthly nor tie in for 2 years. Got a BB too for work but need one for personal use. Is it Viewranger the mapping?

Is it a View smart (gc900)? If it is I've got one with a dodge power button you can have for the price of the postage :)

Would be good for swapping the screen over.

I guess it is an old phone. Althouhg I thin I only got it about 2 Xmases ago. Was hard to lay my hands on so could have been an old model then but I thouhgt at the time it was just a popular one.

Will be cheaper to get it fixed but Im now leaning towards a contract. You can get android phones free with a £15 contract now although it is a 24 year one with O2. however I saw on tv IIRC O2 allow you to get a new phone and move to a new contract without penalties if you stick with them. Kinda makes the 24 months redundant as you can switch after say year/12 months.

Stil not sure. Heard Vodafone is better in Lakes where I need better reception whihc is borne out by mates on that network getting reception when I can't on O2
