Repairing your tools

I can't see me bothering to heat treat an old garden fork. If I had a big gas forge I'd consider it but not with my set up.

The repair is far from urgent as I have the old MOD fork to use for now but if that breaks then I'm stuffed.

Yup. Bent taper handles can be had on eBay for under a tenner.

I need to find a proper hardware store to stock up on such things...there are so few left now

Most shops that sell replacement handles get them from faithfull tools, so any faithful tools stockists should be able to order them in for you http://www.faithfulltools.com/

Use quite a bit of oak at work, so will often use that if its straight grained.
For things like forks or shovels strength is more important whereas for a tool thats used for impact of somekind (axes/hammers) something a bit more springy is preferable.
