Long story short ...

I've just bought a PC from a friend of my dad who's now retired down to Southhampton. Today I've been trying to find a firm who will pick it up from him and then deliver it to me in Leeds.
I did manage this once with City Link a few years ago but now you need to have a business account for this service and a minimum spend of £50 per week. I've also tried Royal Mail but after 40 minutes of getting passed around different teams I got put back to the first place I started, so I hung up.

It's £700 worth of PC and I don't want it getting chucked around in the back of a van if I can help it. The elderly guy I've bought it off isn't very well, hence the sale, so I don't want him making a journey out on his own if I can find another way.

Anybody used a service like this recently ?

I used Parcelforce to move a huge Apple G5 and 30" monitor between two destinations in mid 2008, all told with insurance they charged about £60.

No waiting on the phone, I arranged everything over the internet.

The pick up point was in Scotland in the middle of nowhere and up a dirt track, the delivery address was Central London.

Goods were collected and delivered when they said they would be and in one piece.

Nah, DHL are evil. Most renowned for leaving packages marked 'living organism' to dessicate in their shabby excuse for a warehouse. bah.

Nah, DHL are evil.

Yes, Evil and hopeless...

Bison Bushcraft used DHL to get some gear out to me just before Christmas, they made no attempt to deliver the package and were on the verge of returning it to the UK when with Bison's help I eventually managed to get it delivered.

:(

Gone with Parcel2go just now, cost was £37 as I wanted to insure the parcel.

Thanks all for the advice.

Get your dads mate to take off the side panel and stuff a pillow or such inside the case and then put the side panel back on, this fills the gaps and stops anything coming loose, especially if you've got a big heavy hsf or gaming graphics card. When you receive the pc, take off the side panel and remove the pillow.

Your pc should travel in perfect comfort this way and survive more knocks and bangs than if it was packaged as normal.
