I'd like to put a handle on a Ferro Rod, I guess they are all not created equal, recommend something of decent quality please.....

I'd buy the biggest you can get as they are easier to use imho. You use them up from the bottom generally so they last for ages. I wouldn't get one with a magnesium block attached as I find I rarely use the block (I got some when I 1st started out )

Shouldn't have too much trouble getting a hold of it and operating it when your hands are cold.

Maybe all the firesteels we have now are actually for Lego men?

I refuse to buy the cheap ones now. Bought a few in a pack from china and the sparks were rubbish compared to a light my fire rod. Another one has more magnesium in it or some such....it gives off hot sparks but i cant seem to aim it properly

I personally have done business with a seller on ebay multiple times and very good quality product as well as the service, I had one defect in one of the rods one time.
I mailed him about it just to let the man keep an eye on his production quality ( as I know how these things go as an engineer that dealt with dealers that have their goods produced elsewhere)
and within a day I got a reply with his sincere apologies sending another replacement ferro rod my way. His ebay name is Axeprice and a very good fellow to deal with.

That was the ones I got the last 4 times he does have other sizes too but dont go to small I'd advice.
He also deals in smaller lots http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-2-Ferro...657?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item231c33e239
and the longer version he sells http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-16-x4-Fer...762?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item589b0eb68a
Hope that helps

Yours sincerely Ruud
