As the title says .Over the last few years i have managed to keep my axe sharp with just a GB puck, but this morning i put a bit of chip in the edge and it requires a file.I don't fancy paying for a GB one so could someone recomend me a cheaper alternative.
Thanks Andrew

400 grit wet'n'dry glued to a bit of board is probably the cheapest way to go about it. i use old files and stones from the car boot sale

I've used a variety of files. Nicholson for preference even though they're not the easiest to get in the UK, and Bahco files are also pretty good (I prefer a good file because they stay sharp longer....).

Lidl diamond stones are also good for rough grinding.

Wet and dry to refine and polish the edge.

Strop as you would a knife.

Scare people when you use an axe like an oversize knife to 'plane' wood.

(I am mentioned on the Wooplaw Community Woodland website with the comment 'his axes are sharper than my knives.')

Cheers
