Re-Handling an Opinel

Hi Folks,

Was just wondering have any of you put a new handle on an Opinel before?
My number 9 is starting to look really grubby & has flaked away next to the locking ring.
I have lots of questions about this, but what I really want to know is , do you think I would be able to do this myself or would I be better getting someone with experience/better woodworking skills to do it?

My next questions depend on the answers I get.

I know I could buy a new one, but my dad gave me this knife when I was a kid & I'm kinda attached to it & after all the stuff I've done to it over the years, I think it deserves a nice new body. :)

Thanks in advance

I havent seen a tutorialon doing it.
Have searched for threads on doing on here and have you looked on British blades as they will be able to help you there. I doubt it is that hard. I have seen a few rehandled on BB and on here.

Opinels are fairly easy to modify as they are.The most common mods are dropping the blade tip and re-shaping the handle. The whole handle can be replaced by popping off the locking ring and removing the pin that acts as a retaining pin and the blade pivot.
