Ray Mears Bushcraft - can you name that tune?

I recently heard a piece of music that I'd really like to get hold of.

It's from Ray Mears' Bushcraft, series 1 programme 1 - Aboriginal Britain.

The big question is... Does anyone know what the beautiful piece of music is that is playing while he's fishing for flounders on the Thames?

There is a thing you can do with your mobile, dial 2580 and play the music down the phone, it takes a minute or two and it texts back with song title and artist. I tried it a couple of times and it worked for me. It costs(or used to) 50p a time , so I don't make a habit of it!

It's called shazam, and its very good! You just hold your mobile up to the telly or speaker and it texts you back the name of the song, I have tried the most random songs and it has never failed. Clever stuff!

Have you tried Googling? There are other fora / forums (never
sure of spelling) where people have asked similar questions.
"ray mears" music brings up some stuff from the UKTV
Documentary forum.

Failing that, you could try and contact the production people at BBC
Bristol as it's likely been them who'll have put the tracks on during
editing and I think they have to keep a record so that they can pay
copyright.

Plus someone at Woodlore might know.

"the in sound from way out" is an album by the beastie boys of all people, and tracks from it get used a lot on rays stuff. So do primal scream. Can't be his own choice; he said he liked take that on jo whiley's show.

Has anyone else noticed that the theme tune for "Wild Food" is basically a re-arrangement of the theme tune from "World of Survival".

Ha. I've got The In Sound From Way Out. It's a corker. No, this song I'm after is a sort of chill classical type thing.

I never did get around to calling the production company - I'll do it when I get a mo, I can't see any other way of tracking it down...

Good idea.

I'm after the one that gets used at the beginning of a jungle episode - quite
a fabulous opening to a programme actually. I'll have a look in the next couple
of days and see which one it is I'm actually referring to.

Sure I've heard pyramid song (Radiohead) in there somewhere and Air so
someone in Bristol's been raiding my CD collection ;-)

Onkle Ray use to use in some of his atmospheric scenes a band called

Dead Can Dance (Lisa Gerrard)
and recently some tracks from a trance cd called

Northern Exposure a double cd vol 1 circa 96-97 by Sacha and Digweed but this is now out of production. It's all these mushies that he has been eating!

Not sure if this is the jungle episode you are reffering to (he's done so many) but one of the jungle episodes uses this at the beggining:

Prodigy- Climbatize

And a couple of others used in the series, i'll add to them as i find them:

My inner librarian is impressed!

I'm pretty sure all the music will get plonked on in the editing suite.

Apart from world peace and all that, one thing that would make me
happy would be for ALL incidental music to be acknowledged - even
if just on the programme's website.

At least with adverts we have that fantastic website (whose name
currently evades me) from which I found out that I didn't want to buy
a car but I did want to buy a Philip Glass CD

I'm pretty sure that the BBC would have to record and send details of any copyrighted music off to PRS.

This being the case, I would think they would need to keep records of the this, AND, with them being a public organisation, these records may be subject to Freedom Of Information legislation.

So, if this were the case, and if one were to make a specific written (this includes email) request to the BBC for this information, then provided they had it, they could be legally bound to provide it to you.

Worth a bash perhaps?

re: PRS - very true I'd think they would have to do that...

...but I probably wouldn't rush into an FOI though as if organisations get a
lot of similar requests they tend to have a bit of a strop. I've been reading
Ben Goldacre's efforts to get Durham council to fess up over the fish oil
nonsense that they've been claiming is great for the kids.

That's what I was thinking anyway - my point was that as long as its specific and in writing, its covered by FOI legislation.
