a week is the longest i've keept any (still in the rope waiting for the next one)

I have preserved rabbit furs by salting them until dry. Then rubbing them with Neat's Foot Oil. I don't know if it will work for rabbits feet though.

If they are cut of at the equivalent of ankle or wrist there is so little in the way of tissue other than tendon in there that if they are dries thoroughly they should keep indefinately. Like raw hide though if allowed to get and remain wet they will rot.

My great uncle gave me a hare foot kilt pin and he said he had had it for 30 years and that was about 10 years ago. i still have it and it's as if the hare's still attached

I've used borax to preserve squirrel tails before now. Seems to work OK, but I wouldn't want to get it wet.

I had some hare feets when I was a kid. They were not treated at all. Just cut of the hare (the hare was dead of course ) and dried. Lasted for years, no smell.

You could always try putting shoes on them, that should cut down on the wear.
