I think a thread dedicated to quick questions and answers would be pretty useful. It'll save time and mean the search function won't be cluttered with multiple threads asking about the same thing! (with any luck this will take off be quite handy)

So, post your quick questions and sure enough, you'll get a quick answer!

* I'll start: when using a carbon steel knife and leather sheath for prolonged periods of time how do you prevent/clean a build up of mess in the sheath? and what degree of knife care do you maintain when staying out for long periods of time?

Cheers!

do you try to remove staining on shiny carbon blades when out? or leave it till when you get in? ( I personally like a dark patina but I don't know how I'd feel if i had a pricey custom job on my belt getting mucky..)

That's cheatin' ......You've asked 2 questions & they wern't quick.......The obvious answer to the first, is to wipe/ clean the blade before putting it in the sheath..& the answer to the second is ....a high degree.;).

On a new journey
If you have a pricey custom knife, and are worried about getting it marked, then probably needs to be in a nice display cabinet, and not used. If however you want to use the knife, then something like a bit of scotch bright in you kit, and a bit of oil in a small queazy bottle. should be more than enough to remove most of the small marks that using a knife gains.
Never put a wet or dirty blade back into the sheath, it does neither any good.

@blacktimberwolf. Depends how finely you mince them I suppose

Custom knives are designed to be used also, not just for display. As has been said already dont put your knife away dirty. Carbon steel will stain anyway, but as long as it's not allowed to rust you can clean it when you get back home. Buffing wheel is best or very fine scotchbrite if you dont have one.

I reckon you could probably get 4 baby elephants in a mini, but it would ruin the suspension.

Won't it be just as hard to find stuff in one long thread? Unless you already know your question and answer is in that thread then joe bloggs still has to search for it.

The range of Q's will be so random that it'll be a pig to read IMHO

Yup absolutely right I reckon, better to state what it is your asking about in individual thread titles so as to allow the search to search more efficiently:)

Yes, but that doesn't mean you can't ask the same question again if you haven't looked/or can't find it. It makes the search bar give better results and not just lists of dead threads that don't actualy answer anything. I've found the search bar rather unhelpful at times, even if I know exactly what I'm looking for. And you have to wait 20 seconds per search, soemthing that is annoying when ther eare so many threads not providing you with what you're looking for.

5 to 15 liters depending on activity, though a lot of water is consumed through food,

what makes to think this thread wont be viewed in exactly the same way as the other search results though chap,

ah, so quite a bit then!

naivety? my main goal was to make asking simple questions faster than starting new threads. But it can only work if others feel simular. If they don't then this thread and my hope for easy answers will just be lost and forgotten. I've seen this type of thread work very well on a different forum but I guess it depends on the members attitude to accept certain things like this. we'll see in a day or two what the verdict is.

Read your question again...

I still don't fully undertsand mate. I have no 'guests'.. I wanted to know how much water people use/need. As when not driving knowing how much water you need for extended stays is quite important.
