Hey

Didn't know where else to go!
Is it a good idea with protection from friends?? I mean when you go on pub and things like that..... I'm offered this and needed it 1 time, but not for real anyway. My dad says i should avoid it...?!?!?
Do you have any experience??

sounds like your Dad is giving you good advice. I presume you've talked with him about whatever situation is worrying you. Problem with relying on violence to sort out situations is you don't always have your friends with you.....

Hey

Nice that it's not only bushcraft we can talk about here!
Yeah.... he talked to me about it.... No, i'm against violence too, but some people want to hurt others just for fun. It doesn't necessarily has to be voilence every time... Most of the times they just go over and talk to them, but this often ends in a threat...
I would really like to be able to deal with my problems, myself, but not so big, soo..... :-x
I live close to Denmarks most violent town, when you look at population and size! :!: :?:

I've always taken the option of walking away from violence, though seen as a "Chicken" option, it means i have had few fights and associated problems!

if you hang around in a group there are two sides to it!

1) yes you are more protected if attacked!

2) the group could be seen as a target, or be mistaken as an attaking group.

best advice is think before you act!
if you feel uncomfortable don't feel you have to do it!
peer pressure is a very strong influence! don't give in!

I am not entirely sure what you are talking about. It seems as if the thread has started in the middle of a conversation.

First off, there are some excellent places on the internet that are geared to the discussion of self defense, self preservation, trouble avoidance and so on.
www.selfdefenseforums.com
and the Practical Tactical section of Bladeforums spring to mind. Lots of people go and discuss things that have happened to them, situations that they have been in. You may choose to post there yourself, but you might read something useful.

Something else about going out in a group, what if someone you are with starts trouble? Some people just attract trouble. If they happen to be in a group with you, you are more likely to see trouble than if you were alone.

I have been studying martial arts for a few years now. Whether such study really helps in a confrontation is open to debate. One thing is for sure though, the belief that you are better prepared to deal with physical violence makes you appear more confident and less of a target.

Sorry I am not being more help

Stick with your Dad's advice. He will know you and the area where you live and is the best person to judge situations and what is appropriate and what is not. Having a dad close by that can advise you is of great value, use him as your sounding board and you will probably not go far wrong

i teach self defense. the advice given is spot on unless you really have no other option violence causes more problems than it solves. Somebody gets hurt police or other authorities involvment. generally a bad idea all round. the big no no is never use a weapon. You may well end up being injured with it or going to jail.

Viking if you pm me with the details of problems your facing i may be able to offer some help.

not sure this is in the spirit of BCUK so feel free to remove.
