Seems to wax lyrical about ash.

Elder is not as morbid as that, but I find that it has to be pretty old to burn well on its own.

it does not say much about rowan being the witches tree . also many foresters i know say it's bad luck to cut one down let alone burn it. :eek:

Yeah, I've occassionally wondered about that - many "traditional" sources encourage burning the rowan (and forbid burning oak - too useful for the wars against the French). Perhaps it dates from the era when the Church was more active in attempting to suppress native "superstition"? Just a thought...
