Im starting to have a go at making my own pottery. I have collected my own red clay from a little strean near to my house. i have made one pot which has failed miserably!

First of all i refined the clay to remove stones etc and then added temper made from crushed up old pots. i just guessed on the amount of temper to add. Does any one know how much you should add?

Also, does anyone know how long you should put it on the fire for when its done.

My last pot cracked all over the place and then broke in my hands just now! :

Please help!

Jon, there was a similar topic on here a while back, it covered all the basics. Another thing is that not all clay is suitable Best bet is to get some clay from a pottery place so that it removes that variable.
