Welcome to North East Scotland Dougster. I live in Huntly, just down the road from you. I used to camp a lot at the bridge in your photos, and remember fondly jumping into the river from the bridge.

Nowadays I'm a lot more sensible.

I've always been a keen mountain biker and angler, and know the area well. I've recently taken up bushcraft on my bike. See my blog doricdiversions.com.

There's lots of good walking, biking fishing, and wild camping in the area.

It's a very beautiful part of the world you've found yourself in, Dougster. I've lived in both Inverness-shire and Wiltshire as a boy and I know what I would choose for my children in an instant. But as you say, diversity has enormous benefits.

If anyone is in the area please have a look at this thread for a meet-up in late August: http://http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=137689

It's likely the we'll be very close to you; Rothiemurcus has a special place in my heart too.

I hope to some of you there. Children and dogs are of course welcome.
