Draftsight is a free AutoCAD clone. Reads/saves industry standard DWG and DXF format files. You can draw to real dimensions and make accurately scaled print-outs. Very good for site plans and the like, and for checking/analysing the geometrical relationships between objects. Can also use it to trace from photos, scans of old maps, etc, and then add your own stuff in new layers. Learning curve involved for those that aren't CAD-literate, but worth it. It's not archaeology-specific, but is a very powerful generic 2D CAD tool.
