Until recently I made these with beads on the release rather than knots. While recently slinging some rocks into a local river, I lost all three beads on a throw. They were wooden beads so breaking is unlikely, maybe they got over the figure 8 stopper knot. Whatever happened it was weird1 My first thought was to just do a larger stopper knot, but then after tying the single strand turks head (ABOK #545 p. 90) I realized that three of these in series would make a great release grip; better than beads. Here are a few photos showing how I plan to make it from now on:

nowhere near as tidy or as flash as our friend from across the pond, but it provided the inspiration I needed to make my own! :D

that looks great 3bears. did you test it yet? looks like it could also function as a bottle holder of sorts with the pouch being a shoulder strap!

We had a bit of a thunder storm yesrterday, so i didnt get the chance. Ive been out with it this morning though, not very much in the way of accuracy yet, im only managing to put stuff in about a 5m patch, but the range is incredible! the shoreline is a good 180m away and ive had stones a fair way out in the water! There is a lot to be said for such a simple thing :)

Ill stick a pic up of the distance when i get back in

Thanks for that ! where do you get those big brass needles from ?

I've made a few recently out of 4mm hollow brass tube and a little solder, if you would like one please PM me.
They are not as robust as the one paracordist uses but they work for me.
