so what is the Breaking strain rating of the cheap stuff
and is it strong enough to Guy your tarp with

for all my stuff i use army nylon string works fine never had it snap yet
couse i dont use it for absieling

the cheap stuff is fine for holding and guying a tarp but not much good for anything else. only good for lightweight tarps i have found not canvas

Personally I find 550 a bit OTT for most aplications and am more than happy with the cheap stuff (by whoever) for most cordage needs including shelter building, lashings, guys, gadgets etc. Even garden twine is enough for a lot of things....
I would prefer 550 if I was dangling from it below a 'chute though!

The cheap stuffs alright for what it is, and useful for loads of jobs. Can't moan for a quid.

Ive found that the proper 550 soaks water up like a sponge.

It does, but I find that a benefit for certain jobs.
