As mentioned in an earlier post"light is right", I met up with some friends for an ultra light overnighter and to run a refresher course for the basic Bushcraft we did last year.
Weather wasn't good to start with but we had Carol Kirkwood's assurance it would brighten up by mid day.
On arrival at the site we found everything soaked from the storms the night before and the air still damp, this made the fire craft section a little more interesting. Started of with a talk about core temperature control and the knife skills, and then onto basic knots and fire craft. Once the fire was lit it was time to boil some water and have a quick break and a brew.
With the weather now at the predicted "Scortchio" (good old Carol) we moved on to tarp techniques and improvised sleeping mats an Kevf went through a bit of natural navigation methods with Martin the latest member. With a fair amount of tinder dried out around the fire we made some char cloth and lit a few birds nests and some birch bark with a fero rod.
Then it was onto the serious stuff. Bannock, bacon, chilli, potatoes, hot chocolate and tea as we all had the crack around the fire. Next morning after some porridge and a fresh pot of coffee it was time to look at a bit of tripod construction and it's various uses.
Absolutely cracking weekend and thanks to all the lads that attended and sorry to their ladies for sending them home smelling like smoked kippers
