Just back from a couple of days out canoe/camping.

Jason, me and my wee 2 year old boy Ross packed all our gear on Thursday morning and headed up the west side of Loch Lomond, we put the canoes in at Aldochlay (excuse the spelling for those of you who know this put in) and headed out into the flat calm water of Lomond, as it was Ross's first adventure in wild camping and being in an open canoe we decided to head for the nearest island, to be honest i think i was more nervous than Ross, because if we tipped the canoe and Ross got wet my wife Claire would have killed me and his granny would have danced on my grave, so it was a nervous Colin who launched the canoe.

The journey over was fine, although about half way across, Ross decided that this sitting in the canoe wasnt for him, so up he got and decided it would be better to stand, as it was his first trip i didnt want to spoil it for him by shouting at him to sit down, big mistake i think, so there after followed my attempt at one handed paddling, never again.

Anyway i had a great time and i am so proud that i took the wee man out at 2 years old for his first real adventure, he absolutely loved the whole experience and was dead on his feet by the time we came home on Friday.

A really big special thanks have to go to Jason who did all the donkey work with the kit so i could keep an eye on the wee man, he also escorted us in his canoe so that if anything happened help was at hand, so thanks big man your a star.

Enjoy the photos as much as i did.,,.

After landing and getting set up the wee man made a b-line for the beach and jumped back into the canoe and grabbed a paddle, a good sign that he loved the canoe, i think, i hope!!!

Great photos Colin , its great seeing you and your son having a great time. Best bit of the last Glentrool meet was seeing Sean, Dan,s son and the wee bojits enjoy themselves. Are you bringing the young one to Nathans doo.

Thats my hope too Mary, that he will be ingrained to the outdoors the way i am, although im aware you cant force the issue, but he had a great time and it helped that he had uncle Jason to chase him round the camp site all day long, i swear poor Auntie Jason dropped 2 dress sizes with all the effort.:lmao:

Its a day i will never forget, nothing special happened, but it was the first time i had him all to myself without mum, doing something that i thought we would really both enjoy, and thats exactly what happened, I will pass on your regards to Mr King......Rodders

OHHH Most definitely not, 2 of the crazy gangs birthdays and a 2 year old boy dont mix, when Allybally and wee Scotty are around, a hangover isnt far behind and i dont fancy running after the wee man with a hangover...

Really enjoyed sharing that with you, brought back memories of trailing and sailing a shilouete around lock lomond with my dad as a kid. Sitting in the dinghy on my own being pulled along behind the yacht.

He brought me back with 7 stitches above my eye following me taking a tumble on the waterfall at Inversnaid, (he wouldnt get off the "thunderbox" on the boat & made me go ashore to have a pee).
We disrupted a wedding at the hotel as well; the outboard wouldn't start and there was no wind so the best man took us across to Luss in his speedboat to the waiting ambulance.

50P off the pretty blonde nurse for being brave & a ride in a speed boat & an ambulance, I was made up.
If your other half is anything like my Mum though, woe betide you even taking him back with as much as a graze!! It was brought up in arguments for years. :)

All good character building stuff for the wee man, and memories you both will treasure.
