After a serious spate of weight rationalisation of my kit (after all, I can't ignore modern lightweight kit forever!), I'm on the hunt for some info or opinions on a couple of stoves. I'd originally set my sights on the standard (i.e. folding) Optimus Crux, as it seemed ideal for lightweight winter camps where I plan to be on the move with little more than a day in each location and where fire or meths isn't always an option. There's plenty of excellent information out there on the Crux and the various setups people seem to use, but whilst I was perusing the MSR Titan Kettle out in town yesterday I stumbled upon two similar stoves to the Crux in Field & Trek:

The first is a direct contender for the Optimus Crux; The Go System 'Scion'.

The second is the Go Systems 'Fly' in Titanium;

Lighter but not foldable!

I guess I could just take a punt on either of them, as they're considerably cheaper than the competition, and if you search about on eBay there's a load of them. In light of their availability, I'm guessing someone here has some experience or knows something about them? Who knows, they may even be a product of the same factory as the Optimus and MSR stoves. They seem sturdily built, and I'd like to know if the Scion suffers with the reported 'wobble' that the Crux has due to the ball joint?

I did manage to pick up a Go Systems Explorer Lite lantern which was reduced to £12:

If the stoves are built to the same kind of quality as this, I guess they'll be up to the task as the lantern is simple to operate with few moving parts.(If anyone wants any info of snaps let me know and I'll do a mini review).

Cheers for you help in advance.
Steve:)

I bought a crux second hand and it wouldnt burn properly. Ended up buying a Ti fly and swapping the bottom half over so now Ti fly bottom and crux top. Only thing i would say is if you get a folding one the cheaper ones dont lock open as well as the crux

Cheers for that info Johnnyboy. So your stove now consists of a Folding Fly Ti, is that right? That sounds like the best of both worlds to me!

EDIT: Just got one of those stoves Johnnyboy, I'm going to give it a go and maybe try out a few mods inspired by yours. :) Cheers mate!

To be honest all this kit is knocked out in China, the lantern you linked is good, but only about £12, same with the stoves. The days when Optimus or Primus meant superb quality is no more.

Lots of interesting bits and pieces there, I've had a few things off them including the mini lantern

These work very well on a stove, the heat exchangers do work

Thanks for the info gents. There's plenty for me to be getting on with there!

Bizarre how one factory seems to be knocking out the same design re-branded nearly half a dozen times! Still, I guess it's making somebody rich.
