Thanks for posting that up Ged. It's long been considered possible that certain reptiles could be capable of this. In fact the adder that gave birth before the RC meet may be a contender for this phenomenon as the male she was briefly with was far from sexually mature and only in his first year. I think a few DNA tests and closer examination of the snakes involved is called for now.
Certain amphibians change their sex and are capable of this when population density is low, but not much is known about it happening in reps.
Just to add to the adder issue. Not only is he not sexually mature, his tail beneath the cloaca was removed after a lawnmower accident, and so it is doubtful either hemipene survived in any fit way to reproduce.
